Derek and Kelli were high school sweethearts. As a matter of fact Kelli knew when she layed eyes on Derek in kindergarten that she was going to marry him. At least, that’s what she told her parents when she came home from school that year! Fast forward to 2019 and that exact thought came to fruition. Isn’t that every little girls dream?
Derek and Kelli, were married in August at the Indiana State House. This was the absolute perfect place for their wedding. Kelli has grown up going to the state house as her dad, Matt, is a State Representative. Seeing Kelli as a bride and the complete joy on she and Derek’s face all day, was the best! This couple is well loved and well liked and there was such an atmosphere of God’s goodness at the wedding.
I want to write a book about this day, I really do. Instead I’m going to share one of my absolute favorite moments of the day. The State House is just steps away from Monument Circle in Indianapolis. While we were walking toward the circle for photos, we heard drums. As we got closer to them we noticed that it was a drumline made up of elementary students! I ran ahead of Derek and Kelli and stopped the director and asked if they could stop and play for the bride and groom. They did and with such love and enthusiasm. Videographer, Darien said that it felt like a scene from the Princess Diaries. It was such a fun moment. Derek and Kelli smiled, laughed and danced. The kiddos in the Drumline were so excited. I loved hearing the little girls telling Kelli how pretty she looked as they looked at her with stars in their eyes. It was the best wedding day moment ever! Derek and Kelli, I’ve watched you two grow up. I’ve seen you win high school ball games, get crowned Homecoming Queen, and study hard in college. But this by far was my favorite Derek and Kelli day. Thank you for having me be part of it. I love you both.
